IDT 5020: Issues in Instructional Design and Technology
TNU Course Description:
This course is designed to examine how technology can facilitate instructional practices. Students will explore instructional software, online resources, and synchronous and asynchronous methods in technology mediation. Learners will study variables that affect adult learning, techniques for stimulating and sustaining student motivation, and how to reinforce learning to a global audience.
Instructor: Dr. Robbie Melton
Reflection:
On the first day of class Dr. Melton told us that this class would not be like any other we had ever had – and she was right! Several of the technologies and links we were supposed to use the first week did not work as indicated or no longer existed. These circumstances provided an opportunity for us to find other solutions, collaborate with our cohort members, and persevere through the unexpected situations. Based on these circumstances and our responses to them, Dr. Melton emphasized the importance of our realizing that technologies will not always work as anticipated; we are not alone on this journey, so collaborate; and we need to face challenges head on and not give up -- be creative and find solutions.
This class incorporated many technologies and activities. It was a lot of work, but so much fun at the same time. I enjoyed learning the new technologies and creating those projects listed as artifacts below. Through Dr. Melton’s encouragement, expectations, and life lessons shared, I came to adopt her perspective: make mistakes, embrace the challenges, have fun, and learn! “Life is Good.”
In one of the weekly devotions, a statement was presented that has radically changed my life: “Stress makes you believe that everything has to happen right now. Faith reassures you that everything will happen in God’s timing!” I have it taped to my laptop so I am reminded of this every day.
